Will Smith has been a center of controversy for quite a while, first about the simping of his wife Jada when she was having affairs whilst still married to Smith and the cherry of top being the last Oscar Award’s infamous slap on Chris Rock.

After staying out of limelight and keeping a low profile for several months, Will finally appeared for an interview on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” to promote the new drama that he is acting in called “Emancipation”. Audience tuned into the interview were eagerly expecting for the talk to Oscar slap to come up and it did.

Trevor Noah being Trevor, asked Will Smith were has he vanished from public appearance, to which Will said “I have been away”. The listeners found it cheekily amusing.

“That was a horrific night, as you can imagine. There’s many nuances and complexities to it. But at the end of the day, I just — I lost it, you know?” Will Smith said. He further added “I was going through something that night, you know? Not that that justifies my behavior at all… It was a lot of things. It was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother, you know? All of that just bubbled up in that moment. That is not who I want to be.”

Will Smith told Trevor how that slapping incident at Oscars impacted his private life. “I was gone. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time,” Will Smith told in the show, “My nephew is nine. He is the sweetest little boy. We came home. He had stayed up late to see his uncle Will and we are sitting in my kitchen and he is on my lap and he is holding the Oscar and he is just like, ‘Why did you hit that man, Uncle Will?’ Damn it. Why are you trying to Oprah me?”

Furthermore, in this interview, Will talked about his project Emancipation. The plot of Emancipation revolves around Will Smith playing a character of a slave who flees & then tried to avenge and expose the perpetrators who did the brutality on his kind.

Will Smith added “American slavery was one of the most brutal aspects of human history… It is hard to understand the level of human cruelty. My daughter asked me, ‘Daddy, do we really need another slave movie?’ I said, ‘Daby, I promise you, I wouldn’t make a slave movie. This is a freedom movie.’”
